Welcome

Tucked away in the south-east corner of the Province, Cleobury Lodge 6972 celebrated a very special occasion on Thursday 15th January.

Fifty years to the very day on 15 January 1976, also a third Thursday, W Bro John Williamson was initiated into Freemasonry. W Bro Williamson has had a long and illustrious career in Freemasonry, faithfully serving the Lodge, the Province, the Holy Royal Arch and Freemasonry in general. Passing through the floor offices in the Lodge, John occupied the chair in 1989 and for a number of years acted as both assistant director of ceremonies and director of ceremonies. He was appointed PrGDC in 1999, PSGW in 2003 and given grand rank of PAGDC in 2003 then PJGD in 2018. For twelve years, he was Provincial Deputy Grand Superintendent of the Holy Royal Arch and served as Zerubbabel in two Chapters.

R W Bro Peter Taylor, PPrGM presented a 50-year certificate in a moving ceremony, with the citation given by W Bro Kevin Gwilliam, PrGDC. Marking the importance of the occasion and the very high esteem in which W Bro Williamson is held, the ceremony was designated a full provincial visit attended by the Provincial Grand Master, the deputy Provincial Grand Master, the assistant Provincial Grand Master and three Past Provincial Grand Masters. Also in attendance were ten Grand Officers and nineteen Provincial Officers – a grouping not seen for many, many years. A number of other visitors combined with members of the Lodge to bring the total in attendance to 64.

In addition to the ceremony, the Lodge was regaled with a flawless presentation of the Explanation of the First Degree Tracing Board by W Bro Nigel Gibbon, PPrGStB, in a manner allowing everyone to appreciate the words themselves and the symbolism behind the board. A noisy, convivial and fraternal festive board followed the meeting, at which a large sum was raised towards the 2030 Festival.

The Lodge and all those present wished W Bro Williamson many more happy years in Freemasonry.
